Home Dialysis Machines, Modalities, and How We Support You
More patients are choosing to do dialysis at home โ and for good reason. Home dialysis gives you more flexibility, more comfort, and better quality of life. At 1 on 1 Comprehensive Healthcare, we help residents make that transition and maintain it safely.
The Two Main Types of Home Dialysis
- Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) Peritoneal dialysis uses the lining of your abdomen to filter waste from your blood. It is done at home โ usually overnight while you sleep using a machine called a cycler.
There are two types:
- CAPD (Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis) โ done manually several times a day, no machine needed
- APD (Automated Peritoneal Dialysis) โ uses a cycler machine overnight, giving you freedom during the day
Common PD machines include:
- Baxter HomeChoice Pro โ one of the most widely used APD cyclers
- Fresenius Liberty Cycler โ another popular option for overnight PD
2) Home Hemodialysis (HHD) Home hemodialysis filters your blood through a machine โ similar to in-center dialysis but done at home on your own schedule. It can be done more frequently, which many patients find makes them feel better overall.
Common HHD machines include:
- NxStage System One โ compact, portable, and designed specifically for home use
- Fresenius 2008K@Home โ a clinical-grade machine adapted for home hemodialysis
- Outset Tablo โ a newer, user-friendly machine that simplifies home hemodialysis

- Led by a DNP with 20+ years of clinical experience
- Fully handicap accessible โ wider hallways, accessible bathrooms, electric wheelchair friendly
